Auf wiedersehen Nokia

Nok Oh man.  The Deutschers are der pissed off.  After Motorola and BenQ took flight from Germany, Nokia was for a time the main choice for many German wireless customers.  That has changed after the entire country got Blitzkrieged by the Finnish mobile behemoth this week.

The massive plant Nokia maintains in Bochum will now be closing, leaving about 2,300 German Nokia employees without jobs.  That doesn't even count all the ancillary jobs that will go by the wayside as well.

Where is Nokia moving those jobs you ask?  Well, even if you didn't, the answer is Romania.  WHAT?  (Those damn Romanian goobacks are takin' all our jjjjoooobs.)  Clearly Nokia wants what every global corporate entity wants, namely cheap labor to help them fatten their margins.

A virulent backlash has started against the company now, with regular citizens and even government agencies vowing to dump the brand wholesale... even banning the brand in some government offices.

Ouch.

This of course all ties into the new EU economy model, the efficacy of which is very debatable on both sides.  As an example... I'm sure that the town in Romania where the new plant will go is throwing a party right now.

We will continue to watch this story and update as it evolves.

Whoa, Moto!

HellomotoReliable push email on your phone just moved one step closer to reality.  Motorola finally ponied up the cash for Good Technology, a leader in the mobile push arena.  This should position M nicely for the good ol' fashioned market share punch up with RIM that's bound to hit sooner rather than later.

Moto has already been using Good on the Q so they know what they're jumping into.  Personally we welcome our new Moto-Berry overlords.  One device please!  And make it sexy...  and easy to hold on to... and full of murderous nanobots that will disperse at the click of the send button, swarming out of the MicroSD slot in an evil cloud of death that consumes our enemies before they even know what hit them.  A decent flash for the camera wouldn't hurt either.

Verizon <3's YouTube!

Verizon1_1First things first - let's give the fools at MotleyFool credit for the best headline so far.  We thought of it second, swears.  'Can YouTube Me Now?'  *slaps knee*  Nice one Motleys!

While it's not the first team-up in the new economy space, tis certainly the largest so far.  It makes us wonder who is getting the money for every YT Vcast stream on your phone.  Some of YT's biggest stars are already gravitating towards revenue sharing models like Revver, so how will they feel when their clips are being consumed en masse, sans watermark and they aren't getting a cut?  Maybe Mark Cuban had a point after all.
