Can't Wii all just get along?

WiiWe tried to stay on the sideline here, we really did.  But our hand has been forced by the overflow of console madness sweeping through the nation.  Once every five years or so 'THE SHIFT' happens.  Old consoles get shuffled off to the Bushnell Home for the aged and the new hotness is ushered in with midnight on-sales, media blitzes and countless blog write-ups.  *cough*

What prompted us to actually weigh in on this one was a nice Gamasutra overview of which console those actually employed in the Gaming Industry were planning on picking up first.  Of course it's the Wii.  What reason do you really HAVE to pick up a PS3?  One and one only friends... hype.

It IS possible that Sony's behemoth will eventually live up to it's reputation as 'The most advanced computer system that serves as a platform to enjoy next generation computer entertainments in the home..'  (WTF scei.co.jp?!  Does Borat write your Press Releases?)  However in the near term, it certainly is seeming more and more unlikely.

PS3 is hardware focused, Wii is gaming focused.  So which one are gamers going to pick up more often?  Thaaaat's right sunshine.  When you add in the fact that you can buy TWO Wii consoles for the price of one PS3, plus the better line-up of launch titles over in Nintendo-land... things just look rougher and rougher for Sony.

Clearly, the big shiny black box is a more powerful, sleeker and future-savvy monstrosity, capable of impressing your friends at 50 yards away.  But when you get up close and personal, for our money, it's the Wii that has our hearts (and cash).

More on the PS3 here.

Oh, and 360 + G.O.W. / XBL x HD-DVD > Your Face...  bitches.
